Jeannie Mai inspired me to become an artist!

An Ode to…Jeannie Mai!

“My Odes to…” are dedicated to people, places, brands, or just anything that inspires me!

My inaugural “ode” goes to Jeannie Mai, the awesome host on The Style Network’s How Do I Look?, fabulous stylist, and TV personality. However, years ago, I saw her beautiful face as a spokesperson for Never Accept Ordinary (NAO), a new cosmetics line launched by Amway back in 2005. I was already one year in the business, and dabbled in the skincare here and there.

Met Jeannie at BlogHer 2012 – got a photo before her
publicist whisked her away! I was shaking afterwards!

Having Jeannie Mai as the NAO spokesperson brought youth in the products I sold. Her background in fashion & beauty, coupled with her funky image (who can’t forget her signature blue hair!) gave us young business owners that we could be hip, sassy, personable, and best of all, entrepreneurial! Amway invested in quality products, especially the packaging, bright colors and concentrated pigments–all of which made it easy to sell to my growing list of clients.

Unfortunately, the line was discontinued after 2+ years to focus on ARTISTRY skincare & makeup. By then, I was already knee-deep in the beauty industry, exhibiting at wedding shows and freelancing for shows. And Jeannie blew up on the USA Network, TLC and the Style Network! While most artists were introduced to makeup via MAC, I can proudly say that NAO broke me in…because I Never Accept Ordinary!
